Project leader: Judit Gárdos

Judit Gárdos’ postdoctoral project in the field of the sociology of science, using interview and linguistic analysis techniques, investigates interpretive strategies of contemporary sociology. An important aim of her work is to assess the future functions of sociology and to show the essential role of the interplay of methods, data and theories in understanding the scientific results of contemporary sociology.

The founding fathers of sociology have elaborated detailed explanatory models, but the way in which social scientific explanatory practice actually works today is still largely invisible and unanalysed. In the context of this project, She plans to continue her investigation of the explanatory strategies used in contemporary sociology, complemented by natural language processing techniques. She will analyse international texts (journal articles) containing sociological explanations and conduct interviews with researchers. Her results would contribute to understand the future role of sociology and my work would show the essential role of the interplay of methods, data and theories in the scientific achievements of contemporary sociology.
